What's in it

Lemon essential oil, five times concentrated is where this bar earns its name — and then exceeds it. Standard lemon oil is volatile: most natural lemon soaps smell extraordinary in the shop and considerably less so two weeks later. We use a five-times-concentrated lemon oil specifically to fix that — more scent per drop, deeper penetration, longer-lasting fragrance from the first lather to the very last nub. Anchored by Brazilian yellow clay, this bar stays genuinely, brilliantly lemony all the way to the end. That's not an accident. That's a decision made in the Soaper's Log and verified through every cure cycle.

Litsea cubeba essential oil is the bar's secret weapon — a small wild fruit from Southeast Asia carrying a Meyer-lemon brightness more complex and lasting than lemon oil alone. It adds depth and longevity to the citrus, the note that makes Lemon Drop smell handmade because it carries something mass production never bothers with.

Organic vanilla extract — prepared the traditional way, organic vanilla beans steeped for three months to draw out the full depth of the bean — is the warm base note that turns Lemon Drop from a citrus bar into something as layered as a French lemon cake. The vanilla doesn't announce itself. It sits beneath the lemon and litsea like the warm pastry beneath the citrus curd — present, essential, the reason the whole thing coheres.

A note on the vanilla process: during cold-process soapmaking and curing, the alcohol from the extract evaporates completely — what remains is pure vanilla, no alcohol whatsoever. We tell you this because you deserve to know exactly how everything in our soap is made.

Brazilian yellow clay anchors the scent so it lasts the full life of the bar, and gives Lemon Drop its warm golden color — the color of morning light through a patisserie window, earned entirely by the clay itself.

Organic turmeric powder deepens the golden color naturally — warm, rich, completely without synthetic dye.

Poppy seeds provide the bar's gentle physical exfoliation — small, precise, lifting dead skin without aggression. The finishing touch that leaves skin silky rather than merely clean.

Organic coconut milk turns the lather rich and silky. It's the cream in the lemon cake — the ingredient that makes everything around it richer.

A note on lye: every true soap — every single one, regardless of what the label says — is made with lye. It's the agent that transforms oils into soap through saponification, and when the bar is properly cured, none remains. Without lye there's no soap, only detergent. Why our tallow is different

Not all tallow is equal. Certified grass-fed means the animal spent at least 95% of its life on open pasture — sun, grass, open land the way nature intended. Only 5% grain, ever. That standard produces tallow rich in conjugated linoleic acid and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K — the bioavailable fats your skin recognizes as its own. We source it low-heat rendered, so every nutrient is preserved from pasture to bar. It costs us twice what standard tallow costs. Even certified organic tallow can come from grain-fed, shed-raised animals; certified grass-fed covers how that animal actually lived. We'll take our chances with the sun and grass.
