This is the citrus bar for the customer who appreciates the difference between a lemon and a lemon tart made by someone who has been doing it for thirty years.

What's in it — and what it actually does

5x concentrated lemon essential oil is where this bar earns its name — and then exceeds it. Standard lemon essential oil is volatile, meaning its bright, sharp citrus scent dissipates quickly in natural soap. Most natural lemon soaps smell extraordinary in the shop and considerably less extraordinary two weeks later. We use a five times concentrated lemon essential oil specifically to address that — more scent molecule per drop, deeper penetration into the bar, longer lasting fragrance from the first lather to the very last nub. Combined with Brazilian yellow clay as a scent anchor, this bar stays genuinely, brilliantly lemony all the way to the end. That is not an accident. That is a decision made in the Soaper's Log and verified through every cure cycle.

Litsea cubeba essential oil is the bar's secret weapon — a small wild fruit from Southeast Asia that carries a Meyer lemon brightness more complex and lasting than lemon essential oil alone. It adds depth and longevity to the citrus profile, the note that makes Lemon Drop smell handmade because it carries something that mass production never bothers with. Together with the concentrated lemon it creates a citrus scent so bright and so alive that customers describe it as smelling like the real thing — because it is.

Organic vanilla extract — prepared the traditional way, organic vanilla beans steeped in ocean organic vodka for three months to extract the full depth of the bean — is the warm base note that transforms Lemon Drop from a citrus bar into something as layered and precise as a French lemon cake. The vanilla doesn't announce itself. It sits beneath the lemon and litsea cubeba like the warm pastry beneath the citrus curd — present, essential, and the reason the whole thing coheres into something greater than the sum of its parts.

A note on the vanilla process: during cold process soap making and the curing cycle, the alcohol from the vodka evaporates completely — what remains in the finished bar is pure vanilla extract with no alcohol whatsoever. We tell you this because we believe you deserve to know exactly how everything in our soap is made. If you have concerns about alcohol in any form, please know it is not present in the finished bar.

Brazilian yellow clay does two jobs in this bar simultaneously — anchoring the scent so it lasts the full life of the bar, and contributing its rich silica and magnesium mineral content to brighten dull skin and refine pores without drying. It is also responsible for Lemon Drop's warm golden color — the color of morning light through a patisserie window, earned entirely by the clay itself.

Organic turmeric powder deepens the golden color naturally — warm, rich, and completely without synthetic dye — while contributing its extraordinary anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to every wash. Turmeric has been used in skincare across Asian and Middle Eastern traditions for thousands of years for genuine reason. Here it colors and heals simultaneously, the way the best ingredients always do.

Poppy seeds provide the bar's gentle physical exfoliation — small, precise, and effective at lifting dead skin cells without aggression. They are the finishing touch on a bar already layered with chemical exfoliation from the clay and brightening from the turmeric — the final refinement that leaves skin silky smooth rather than merely clean.

Organic coconut milk transforms the lather — rich, silky, and deeply hydrating, vitamins C, E, and B complex alongside essential fatty acids that your skin absorbs gratefully. It is the cream in the lemon cake. The ingredient that makes everything around it richer.

A note on lye: every true soap — every single one, regardless of what the label says — is made with lye. Lye is sodium hydroxide, and it is the chemical agent that transforms oils and fats into soap through a process called saponification. Without lye there is no soap — only detergent. When saponification is complete and the bar is properly cured, no lye remains in the finished product. It is consumed entirely by the process. We tell you this because we tell you everything. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.

Why our tallow is different — and why it matters

Not all tallow is equal. Certified grass-fed means that animal spent a minimum of 95% of its life on open pasture — sun, grass, and open land the way nature intended. Only 5% grain. Ever. That standard produces tallow with a nutrient profile that grain-fed, shed-raised, bleached commercial tallow simply cannot match — rich in conjugated linoleic acid, vitamins A, D, E, and K, and the kind of bioavailable fats your skin recognizes as its own.

We source it low-heat rendered — meaning every nutrient is preserved from pasture to bar. We verified that process before we chose our supplier and we'd make a different choice if it changed.

It costs us twice what standard tallow costs. Even certified organic tallow can come from grain-fed, shed-raised animals. Certified grass-fed covers how that animal actually lived.
