What's in it

French rose clay is the heart of this bar — the softest of the rose clays, warm and gentle and kind to skin that's been through something. It gives Velvet Rose its distinctive dusky rose color — the color of petals in candlelight, earned entirely by the clay itself. No dye. No artifice. Just the ingredient being exactly what it is.

Kaolin clay layers underneath — the purest and gentlest of all clays, adding a softness to the lather that makes this bar feel like skincare rather than soap.

Egyptian geranium essential oil — grown in the Nile Delta and prized by perfumers for its rose-like depth — is the floral soul of this bar. It opens the scent with a warmth that's immediately intimate — the smell of something worth staying close to.

Patchouli essential oil is the velvet of this bar — dark, warm, and deeply grounding, the base note that gives the scent its staying power and its mood. In the right hands patchouli isn't heavy — it's the note that settles into your skin and becomes something personal rather than something applied. The note that makes Velvet Rose linger long after the bathwater has gone cold.

Lemongrass essential oil is the unexpected brightness that keeps this bar from becoming too dark — a clean, citrusy lift that keeps the patchouli from overwhelming and gives the geranium room to breathe.

Together these three oils create a scent that moves. Egyptian geranium opens warm and floral. Patchouli deepens it into something earthy and intimate. Lemongrass keeps it alive and breathing. It smells like candlelight looks — warm, layered, and completely impossible to replicate with synthetic fragrance.

Why our tallow is different

Not all tallow is equal. Certified grass-fed means the animal spent at least 95% of its life on open pasture — sun, grass, and open land the way nature intended. Only 5% grain, ever. That standard produces tallow rich in conjugated linoleic acid and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K — the bioavailable fats your skin recognizes as its own. We source it low-heat rendered, so every nutrient is preserved from pasture to bar. It costs us twice what standard tallow costs. Even certified organic tallow can come from grain-fed, shed-raised animals; certified grass-fed covers how that animal actually lived. We'll take our chances with the sun and grass.
