The air coming off those islands carries citrus and flower and salt and something warm and completely alive underneath it all. Trade winds that have crossed the entire Pacific, arriving soft and warm and smelling of everything they passed through on the way.

Alkanet root is where the bar announces itself before you've read a single word — one of nature's most extraordinary natural colorants, a plant root used in skincare and natural dyeing for thousands of years. Steeped directly into the oils of this bar, it produces the deep, dramatic purple that makes Alani Moani the most visually striking bar in our collection. No dye. The color is earned by the root itself.

Pink rose clay works alongside the alkanet in quiet partnership — the lightest touch of any clay in natural skincare, gentle enough for daily use on skin that reacts to everything else.

Raw organic Manuka honey — sourced from New Zealand bees that pollinate only the native Manuka bush — brings a natural richness to every wash. We use only Manuka across our entire collection, because the difference between Manuka and ordinary honey isn't subtle, and we didn't build this company to use the second-best option because it costs less.

Organic aloe vera juice is the cooling heart of this bar — replacing a portion of the water in the recipe entirely for a soft, soothing wash that works in partnership with everything around it.

Tangerine and orange essential oils are the citrus soul of Alani Moani — bright, sweet, and immediately transporting in a way synthetic citrus fragrance has never replicated. Cold-pressed from the rinds of sun-grown fruit, they carry the full aromatic complexity of the real thing. This is the citrus that makes you close your eyes on the first inhale and go somewhere warm.

Bergamot essential oil lifts the citrus into something more sophisticated — slightly floral, slightly complex, the note that keeps Alani Moani from smelling like a fruit bowl and instead like a place. Clary sage essential oil is the unexpected depth — herbal, warm, and slightly earthy, the note that grounds the citrus brightness and gives the whole blend staying power. It's the note that makes perfumers lean in and try to identify what they're smelling.

Ylang ylang essential oil closes the composition — tropical, rich, and unmistakably of somewhere extraordinary. It bridges the citrus brightness and the herbal depth with a floral warmth that makes the whole blend cohere. This is the note that stays on your skin. The one that makes someone lean toward you and ask what you're wearing.

Why our tallow is different

Not all tallow is equal. Certified grass-fed means the animal spent at least 95% of its life on open pasture — sun, grass, and open land the way nature intended. Only 5% grain, ever. That standard produces tallow rich in conjugated linoleic acid and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K — the bioavailable fats your skin recognizes as its own. We source it low-heat rendered, so every nutrient is preserved from pasture to bar. It costs us twice what standard tallow costs. Even certified organic tallow can come from grain-fed, shed-raised animals; certified grass-fed covers how that animal actually lived. We'll take our chances with the sun and grass.
